World Series Game 7 Captures 51 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning contest where the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51 million watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball reported this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-match World Series averaged 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total US average was 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s best playoff ratings since 2017.

MLB stated that the World Series was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
